The Street Fight exhibition, held at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw from October 2022 to January 2023, explored the role of urban streets and public spaces, particularly highlighting the dominance of cars over pedestrians. This exhibition was part of the Warsaw Under Construction festival and featured numerous projects addressing issues such as sustainability, urban mobility, and public space accessibility.
One of the key contributions was by the Architektoniczki collective, who presented their research project Equal Jerozolimskie. This project focused on Aleje Jerozolimskie, one of Warsaw’s main streets, and analyzed how urban spaces can be made more inclusive. The research applied feminist urbanism principles to evaluate how public streets can become safer and more accessible for everyone, particularly marginalized groups like women, children, and the elderly.
Their research methodology examined not only the physical layout of the street but also how emotional factors—such as feelings of safety and comfort—play into the experiences of those navigating the space. The project was part of Architektoniczki’s broader mission to design public spaces that cater to the needs of all, offering a fresh perspective on how cities can be redesigned to enhance equality and social inclusion.
This exhibition fostered critical discussions about the future of urban design in the context of the climate crisis, with a focus on reducing car dominance, promoting public transport, and creating pedestrian-friendly environments.
